Detail of hsa-miR-21
ncRNA name hsa-miR-21
ncRNA Category miRNA
Disease name diabetic retinopathy (DR)
Species Homo sapiens
Tissues/Cell_line human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT)– immortalized RPE cell line hTERT–RPE-1; human retinal microvascular endothelial cells (HRMECs)
Methods qRT-PCR, Western blot, ELISA
Expression pattern up-regulated
Functional description Fenofibrate, a specific agonist of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α (PPARα), displays robust therapeutic effects on diabetic retinopathy (DR) in patients with type 2 diabetes.miR-21 targeted PPARα by inhibiting its mRNA translation. Diabetes-induced overexpression of miR-21 in the retina is at least partly responsible for PPARα downregulation in DR. Targeting miR-21 may represent a novel therapeutic strategy for DR.
